A specific issue order is a court order that covers a particular issue that you want to formalise. These orders can be arranged as part of the overall child arrangements, or can be in response to a problem or issue that has arisen.

Applications for a specific issue order may be from a parent or family member, or from the local authority where there are concerns about the safety or wellbeing of the child or children in question.

Examples of specific issues that are dealt with by court orders include:

• The religion that a child will be brought up in
• Arrangements for medical treatment
• The school the child will attend
• Permission to change your child’s name

Specific issue orders do not cover arrangements for where the child or children should live or have contact with as these are dealt with under child arrangements orders.
